Thomas J. Schoenbaum holds a B.A. degree (summa cum laude) from St. Joseph's College (Indiana), a D.E.S.S. in Philosophy (Diplôme d'etudes supérieurs specialisées) from the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), a J.D. (Juris Doctor) degree in law (with distinction) from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge (U.K.).
He serves as Special Counsel to the Noda General Law Offices, Nihonbashi, Tokyo. He was Professor of Graduate Studies at the International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan. From 1983 to 2003 he occupied the Dean Rusk Chair of International and Comparative Law and served as Executive Director of the Dean Rusk Center for International and Comparative Law, University of Georgia. From 1979 to 1983 he was Associate Dean and Founding Executive Director of the Admiralty Law Center, Tulane University. From 1968 to 1979 he was Professor of Law, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He is currently Dean Rusk Professor of Law, Emeritus at the University of Georgia.
